Root Canal Treatments

Root Canal Treatments

If you’ve had an injury or trauma to your tooth, you may need root canal therapy. Equally, bacteria in your mouth can invade a tooth, causing decay, infections or abscesses.

Symptoms That May Indicate You Need a Root Canal

  • Severe toothache
  • Sensitivity to hot and cold
  • An abscess on the gums
  • Swelling or tenderness

The Procedure

Root canal treatment or endodontics is a dental procedure to treat infections at the centre of the tooth. To save your tooth, all living tissue inside the tooth is removed and filled with medicated dental material and sealed with either a filling or crown to prevent the recurrence of the infection. It is normal for your tooth to be sensitive following treatment. The sensitivity will subside once the inflammation decreases and the tooth heals. Root canals usually require one or more appointments.

COVID-19 UPDATE

As you are aware the Chief Dental Officer announced on 28 May, that dental practices across England will be allowed to begin the process of reopening for all emergency and routine face-to-face dental care from Monday 8 June.

We have been clear in all our communication throughout the pandemic, that our first priority is the wellbeing of our patients and colleagues, and this continues to be the case. As a result, Worthing Road Dental Practice will only be reopening once we are satisfied that we have all of the necessary processes and personal protective equipment (PPE) in place to ensure everyone’s safety.

Rest assured, we will be working through the information as quickly as possible as and when it becomes available.  We will be communicating directly with you soon and via our website with more information about when the practice will re-open. In the meantime, please do not attempt to make a new appointment. If you experiencing a dental emergency such as severe pain or need advice you should continue to contact the surgery who will be able to help on 01403 252646 or email us at appointments@worthingroaddentalpractice.com.
